CES Fireside

CES Fireside May 1, 2011 6 pm
Opening song: The Spirit of God
To the Young Adults
Sister Rosemary M. Wixom Primary General President
Come to know myself and come to know myself
Coming to know and where you learned it
We are here on earth walking the path, and living the plan the Father planned for us
The Plan of Salvation is the best gift given to us
This plan is difficult and downright hard, and we walk by faith
We must return to Him and become like Him
Now we are being tested on how well we knew Him
He is on our right hand and on our left and we are roundabout with His angels
Stand as a witness of God, and walk uprightly before God
Seek the place where you will seek the Lord
1. How can I come to know the Spirit of the Holy Ghost?
Because of meekness and lowliness of heart bring the presence of the Holy Ghost, the Comforter which shall teach you the quiet things of the Gospel
Give yourself to much Spirit of Prayer and Fasting
King Lamoni said I will give up my sins to know God, yea I will give up all that I own even my whole kingdom to know God
When you invite the spirit of The Holy Ghost into your life it will always be with you
2. How do I come to know the Book of Mormon is true?
Set time aside for when you are going to read the Book of Mormon
You need to find your own testimony, your own belief or hope, that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and was written for you today
Pray to God to know if it is true, ask
In all the education pursued the most important piece of knowledge to gain is to find out if the Book of Mormon is true.
Set aside an hour everyday to find out if this book is true
We can find to know the truth but only if there is nothing else we want to know more
When you find these things out that ye ask of God that ye may know for yourself if they are true
3. How will I come to know the plan the Father has for me?
Some talents are God-given, however many can be obtained.
A list of objectives to complete in a lifetime
                1. Go to college at BYU
                2. Become a child of His
                3. Go on a mission
                4. Get married in the temple to a missionary
                5. Have children and raise them in the gospel
                6. Send my children to college
                7. See my children married in the temple
                8. Become a cookie giving grandma
                9. Come to know the gospel and live a happy life
                10. Return to Heavenly Father the best I can
4. How will I come to know the Father and His Son?
As long as you are proud you cannot know God
Involvement to anything in the extreme is too much
Humble, Submissive, Meek
We come to know the Savior when we allow Him to come into our lives
Our trials can become blessings as we let the Lord work in our lives, because they will teach us and make us grow
CS Lewis “The new men are dotted here and there all across the world, … their faces are different from ours…you tend to think you are being kind to them but they are really being kind to you…to become a new man is to come to Christ…His will is to become ours and we are to think His thoughts.”
Recognize the Lord’s hand in your life, the more you see it the more you will recognize who God is and He will be more in it.
Coming to know for ourselves is very personal
It is the process of remembering what we once knew
We knew Him, and if you ever wonder if He knows you, just ask
The Lord can teach us when we inquire
He will ease all pain, He can carry our burdens and ease every desire and help us along the way
Nothing will startle us more than to see how much we know Him and how recognizable His face is
I stand as a witness of the Father and His Son
We knew them well before we came to this earth, just hold on and you will make it.
Closing song: Know this That Every Soul is Free

What I believe

I am a Mormon
I believe in what the Prophets have said.

Article 1
We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
For all of those who don’t know what this means let me explain. We the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are three different and distinct beings. When the scriptures say things like, we are one, or, I and the Father are one, we believe it means they are one in purpose but not one as in one person.
When we say the Eternal Father, we mean to say that God is the father of our spirits. He created our souls, thus he is our Father. When we say eternal we mean kind of like a circle of life. He has always been and always will be, just as we have been.
We believe Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God. We don’t claim to know how the Virgin Mary became pregnant, however, He is God so if He can say to a mountain move and it is done, why not say be thou pregnant and it be done also.
We also believe that God and Jesus Christ are living and not dead, and also they have bodies of flesh and blood just as we do. The reason we believe this is not solely but partially because Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in his first vision. I believe Joseph Smith saw God because of his faith which he had been taught by his parents.
We believe the Holy Ghost to be separate and distinct from God and Jesus Christ because they have said so through the mouth of their Holy Prophets.
This is was we believe and other members can probably explain this better than I can, but this is what I know:

That Heavenly Father is our father, not just my father or the father of Mormons, but the father of all people who have lived, live today and will yet live. I know Heavenly Father loves every single one of His Children. I know Jesus Christ suffered for all sins, died for us, and that He rose again and lives as we will live in the future. Christ overcame all things even death so that we can too. Everyone can live again and be born again through Christ. When I say born again, I don’t mean reincarnation, I mean to say that when we choose as individuals to change who we are and come unto Christ, we can make that change because Christ will be with us. And I am not just speaking to those who are “goody two shoes” I am speaking about every single person today. Anyone can come to Christ, and if they are sincere and Christ will know and so will God if the heart is sincere, and if they believe He can forgive their sins then He will. It only depends on us and our choices that either stop us or allow us to keep going.

General Conference Afternoon April 3

General Conference Sunday Afternoon April 3
Conducting: Henry B Eyring
Choir: Mormon Tabernacle Choir, blue
Opening Song: I Saw a Mighty Angel Fly
Song: I am trying to be Like Jesus
Richard G Scott Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Got married in the Teton temple
Marriage and the Family
“Dad, I love you, you are my best friend”
Don’t waste time with idle pursuits and get on with life.
If you want to have a wonderful wife you need her to see you as a wonderful priesthood leader.
If you are married, are you loyal to your spouse mentally as well as physically
Are you kind and supportive of your spouse and children?
Do you tell your wife often how very much you love her?
Express gratitude for what your spouse does for you.
Don’t withhold natural expressions of love; it works best when you hold her close
IT’S TIME TO TELL YOU I LOVE YOU
Give of yourself and never think of yourself, put others first and be willing to serve
As a mother you have divine instincts to know your children’s capabilities
Times of Happiness, Testing and Trial—the Lord will get you through it.
Seek an Eternal Companion
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO THE LORD
ETERNITY IS A LONG TIME, have faith in those promises and live worthy of them so that the Lord will be able to bring them to you, in your life.
Lead US TO SOMEONE we can Help
D Todd Christofferson Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Be ye perfect even as I and your Father in heaven is perfect
It is not enough just to go through the motions
You need to become what your father needs you to become
God makes demands of those who follow Him
God changes our lives
He asks for commitment and our very lives, it traffics life and death not niceness
One attitude to adopt: Willingly to accept and even seek CORRECTION
For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth.
He chastens us to persuade to repent, refine and sanctify us, and to redirect us to a better path.
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN DILIGENTLY
Repentance leading to righteousness
His people must be tried in all things that they will be prepared to enter His kingdom
He tries their patience and faith
Hue B Brown cleaning his property and came across a current bush leaving only small stumps and he spoke to it, saying I am the gardener, and I know what I want you to be, I don’t intend you to be a fruit tree, I expect you to be a current bush and later you will say thank you gardener for making me a current bush.
Thank you Mr. Gardener, for cutting me down, and for loving me enough to cut me down.
The Lord might answer our questions with No
Correction can come through others
Perfecting of the Saints is to chasten them when the strand in need and only as God directs.
Correction can also come from one’s Spouse
Look directly at people when you are talking to them
Love them much more enough to cover the wound of which we inflicted
We should become self correcting
Analyze your own performance to find what you could do better and diligently try to apply the lessons thus learned
Deny yourself of all ungodliness
Submit to God’s chastening hand
Let us pray for his Love inspired correction
We CAN become one with God and Christ
Carol B Pratt of the Seventy
The Lord fulfills his promises to those who pay their tithing
When we obey commandments, we are blessed
Payment of tithing was not accountable to their monetary income—they paid the sum of which they felt they were indebted to the Lord
We are all indebted to the Lord, let us not be accused of robbing God, so pay your tithing and be honest and pay.
Pay tithing even when you need the money, pay the law it is what the lord expects. It is from the firstling of our income be it scarce or abounding. Do not delay the first fruits. Pay it as soon as you receive any income. Tithing is a manner of faith.
Let us show our faith in the Lord by paying an honest tithing
The Lord promises blessings but just because you pay money for your tithing it might not always come as money. We are promised to do well, and to make do.
He blesses us with living on 90% of our income instead of 100%
The payment of tithing is an excellent insurance against divorce
Tithe paying works in us a pure and charitable heart.
Regular tithe payers find their faith in Christ increased.
Congregational Song: Come Ye Children of the Lord
Lynn G Robbins of the Seventy
What manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say, even as I am.
The Savior often called out those that did without to be is a hypocrite.
SO if we do good works without having good intentions for others is being a hypocrite
Do not be FALSE
Woe unto you because you pay tithe but you do not focus on faith, judgment and mercy
Do you have a to be list?
To do can be checked off, but to be is not an event it needs to be part of who I am.
When can I check my children off to be done? You don’t
Be begets Do, teaching them good principles will do more good than teaching them about good principles.
Discipline implies patience, teaching, love never anger; it comes from the same root word as Disciple.
Through Discipline the child learns lessons, ask the child what they learned through this experience, then you have the opportunity to be in tune with the spirit and both of you will grow.
A sweet and obedient child will only be parenting 101, if you have a tough child you will get the lesson of parenting 505.
With which child will your patience, love, and development grow and be refined.
How much do you need the child as the child needs you.
Never let failure become an identity of self instead of an action.
Disappointing behavior is (an act not identity) only for a short time, not lasting.
Praise characters not the do
Compliment the being and not the doing
Praise for diligence and to turn in all your homework, not just praise for getting an A in class
Teach attributes from the gospel
To teach to be is to be
Be the example.
Benjamin De Hoyos of the Seventy
I have been one of the stakes of Zion
We are called to be Saints
Become Saints to the degree of feeling Charity, the pure love of God
Move Forward with Patience
“Come unto the Lord, the Holy One, remember His paths of righteous, His ways are narrow” from Jacob.
It doesn’t matter the circumstances and the challenges that surround us, The lord God and Jesus Christ will be the power that uphold us as we move forward.
“Let not your heart be troubled, neither be afraid”
If we place our confidence in the Lord, we will be sustained through all trials not exempt
C Scott Grow of the Seventy
His brother after 30 years of righteousness he spent 10 years of wickedness then came back to the church and became sealed again in the temple and served faithfully Monday March 7.
The miracle of the Atonement
He who repents of his sins, he will confess them and forsake them
He speaks of the MIRACLE OF THE ATONEMENT
Christ appeased the demands of justice
Through his Atonement and death culminated with the resurrection takes away justice if we will repent.
Hr bled from every pore and he took on their infirmities, their sorrows, anguish of sin and more. He has borne our grieves and bourn our sorrows. He also felt the innocent who suffered by the sins of others, he felt guilt. Our sins are remitted through Christ.
Repent least you suffer, you know not how terrible the suffering is.
Have you made mistakes of which you need to repent?
Repent and forsake your sins, then ask forgiveness. Forgive those who wronged you, Ask forgiveness from those you wronged, forgive yourself.
We have agency to sin and repent and to be born again, choose Christ and the light of life that is offered to each of us.
Will ye not now repent and return unto me?
Jeffrey R Holland Quorum of the Twelve
On Ensign Peak, the Great Salt Lake valley and the surrounding Mountains as the prophesied place to be an ensign to the world
Lo, Zion’s standard is unfurled.
It is not happenstance that the Magazine is titled the Ensign
Reflect in the days ahead on the unique phenomenon that General Conference is
We testify to every person that God lives and that He speaks, for our time and in our day. The counsel we have been hearing is that of the spirit and of the will of the Lord, the voice of the Lord and the power unto Salvation.
Those who speak on the pulpit at general conference are angels with angelic messages that have consecrated their lives to preach the Lord’s word
We speak to those we know well and those we do not know.
We speak to young children, middle age, single, old, very close to home and those far from home.
Say nothing but repentance to this age, to bind up the broken hearted.
There is the assumption that there is something in these talks for all of those
Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable
He who is angry at his brother is in danger of the judgment
The Lord is always calling us to another higher level and He calls us forever to be better until we will be perfect.
The church is not a fast food outlet, we cannot have it our way.
Salvation can only come in the Lord’s way.
If you are doing the best you can, then give yourself high marks.
Look for self improvement but not by self degradation.
If we teach by the spirit and you listen by the spirit then someone in the conference will send an epistle just to you.
One way or another God will have His voice heard.
Testimony of love and of warning, just as nature testifies of love and of warning.
The lives of prophets are not easy.
President Monson has been given by his family for more than 50 years to the world.
And he stays cheerful through it all. Unusual stamina and remarkable faith.
Your devotion is an example to us all.
We will stand with you - shoulder to shoulder and we will lighten your load in any way we can. WE can do this by doing our callings. We will try our hardest.
Thomas S Monson President – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Read and study the messages in the Ensign and Liahona
We face many challenges of the day, but Heavenly Father is aware of us and will help us as we strive to follow His commandments.
Reach out to others of other faiths and of our own
Be examples of Honesty and Integrity for whatever we do and wherever we go.
Be grateful for His atoning sacrifice.
At the last moment He could have turned back, but He did not. He passed all things, and surpassed them, and saved us all by teaching us how to live and to die. He secured our Salvation.
Song: More Holiness Give me

General Conference April 3 Morning Sudnay

General Conference Morning
April 3, 2011 Sunday
1936 Heber G Grant presented the Welfare Program this is the 75th anniversary
Conducting: Henry B Eyring
Opening song: O thou Rock of our Salvation
Song: Sabbath Day
Song: Come Thou Rejoice
Choir: Is the Tabernacle Choir in blue dresses, silver ties
Dieter F Uchtdorf Second Counselor, First Presidency
Conversion of Saul to Paul
We testify the same thing has happened to Joseph Smith Jr.
However, some believe that unless they receive an angelic testimony they cannot believe.
Faith is walking into the darkness of unknown believing the Lord will light the way.
Knowledge of Christ becomes as a puzzle, each piece is small and you don’t know how it all fits together, but as we figure it out through our lives we see as we finish the puzzle and look back and see that along the way of putting the puzzle together Christ came.
DO NOT BLOCK OUT THE SPIRIT, IF YOU BLOCK IT OUT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY NO LONGER HEAR IT.
Strive to be among those that the Lord can rely on and to follow His promptings.
RECOGNIZING THE VOICE OF THE LORD
Our spiritual promptings are not only for ourselves but also for others.
I WILL CONTINUE MY SPIRITUAL BLOG! ON robbiedelight.blogspot.com
We have a covenant responsibility to reach out, bless, and uplift those around us.
By becoming the answer to other’s prayers we become or find the answer to our own.
He share’s the word with those that will SHARE it.
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT SHARING THE GOSPEL AND CHANGING RELATIONSHIPS WITH FRIENDS, IT IS A MESSAGE OF GREAT JOY.
Share the good news across all of our technological to use our hands to blog and text message our gospel across the world, at the right time and at the place.
The best way to share the gospel is by example
If we are joyful and at peace in the world, others will want to know why.
Preach the gospel at all times and sometimes use words
Blessed are them that have not seen, and yet have believed.
He offers peace, comfort to those who honor Him and walk in His way.
This Church is lead by HIM the SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST
Do not wait too long on the road to Damascus.
Paul V Johnson of the Seventy
Affliction is part of our mortal experience
These are to be a trial of our faith.
These trials do not just test us, they allow us to put on the divine integrity
NO Experience is time wasted, it can build our character.
It is through sorrow, suffer, toil, and strife that we have come to experience.
Being GOOD is not enough
We want to be like Christ who went through the Atonement, and suffered for all of us.
We can only see the views when we make the climb.
The darkest times in our lives come just before we see wonderful blessings.
Mothers know the challenges of labour precede the miracles of birth.
Challenges prepare us for future wonders and problems
No matter how grievous, it brings fruit of peace and joy
Our time of affliction is but a moment in our lives.
We do not seek our trials and tribulations our time in life will bring them and those will be enough.
Christ himself had the ultimate suffering before he could receive eternal life and resurrection.
Growth cannot come by taking the easy way.
An athlete needs rigorous training to be an Olympic champion
DO NOT RESENT YOUR TRIALS THAT ARE MOLDING YOU FOR THE BETTER
Who so ever puts their trust in God shall be held up through trials, and will be exalted
We want the Lord to say WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT.
Through their helped we can overcome all trials
H David Burton Presiding Bishop
Will this buy me any bread?
April 6, 1936 Heber J Grant, J Ruben Clark, and David O McKay announced the Welfare
J Ruben Clark said the Welfare is the manifestation of the Holy Ghost to President Grant.
A system to reach out to take care of people no matter what the cost, he would stop seminary, close temples, stop missions for a time, HE WOULD NOT LET THE PEOPLE GO HUNGRY.
As long as the church has resources, we will not let you go hungry, unclothed, and be unsheltered.
The Lord will designate how this should be done, and he has
Personal Responsibility and Self Reliance are keys to our Welfare
Help People help themselves.
Avoid debt, avoid thrift, prepare for distress, listen and follow living oracles, distinguish between needs and wants then live accordingly.
We cannot reach eternal life without taking care of others.
The Great King Benjamin taught the reason we serve others is so that we can walk perfect and spotless before God.
We pray for kind, virtuous societies were goodness and righteous will abound.
HELP ALL THOSE YOU SEE, if you do not you are under condemnation
LOVE AND CARE FOR YOUR NEIGHBOORS
PUT ON THE YOLK OF THOSE WHO SUFFER
Rescue the dear and desperate saints
Echo Squires in remembrance of the circumstances of her birth, in the snow.
Robert Taylor Burton fell ill and he said, “Be kind to the poor”
The WELFARE PLAN is not an interesting footnote; it is the essence of who we are.
THE work of caring for one another and being kind to the poor is a sanctifying work.
Congregational Song: Let us all press on
Silvia H Allred First Counselor Relief Society General Presidency
Serve Self, Family and Other
The day the Relief Society is the day the poor and needy will change forever
They will dry up the tears of the orphan and will make the widows heart rejoice
Strengthen the communities.
Rejoice at the opportunities you have to serve others, which saves souls
Our Principles have not changed over time
Love needs to be our first priority when we serve
Continue to build faith, strengthen home and family
No matter where the ward, branch is or the size we can still build others
WILLINGNESS TO SERVE
Heavenly Father loves us and knows our unique problems. And he often fulfills our needs and blesses us through other people.
Service helps us become true Disciples of Christ
That others needs may be met, faith strengthened and hearts be full of joy and love
David A Bednar Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Experiences with light
Like when you enter a dark room and turn on the light; what had before been unseen became recognizable instantly.
The light form the rising sun does not immediately burst forth, the light steadily increases as it diminishes the night. IT was a subtle and gradual increase of light.
SPIRIT OF REVELATION and HOW IT IS RECEIVED
The Holy Ghost is a revelator and no man can receive the Holy Ghost without receiving revelation
Sincere desire and worthiness invite the spirit into our lives
Ask in Faith, with an honest heart, believing they would receive
Revelation comes as thoughts and feelings into our hearts by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Holy Ghost is a voice of perfect mildness.
Consider seriously how we can reject the devil’s enticements and increase revelation in our families.
The Father and his revelation for us comes upon us as the sun comes over the horizon, it is gradual and sometimes we do not see it at first, and we do not realize what is good all at once, it comes over time.
The Father showed me the truth by line upon line and over time. He did not have to send an angel or a trump by the still small voice he gave me the testimony that I have. --And they will come to know the Lord in His own time.
If you go forward with faith and love the lord then you are doing just fine.
Sometimes the sun rises on a foggy or cloudy day, and discerning when the sun comes up is difficult. Just so, sometimes we receive revelation and we do not realize or notice we are receiving it.
Are we walking in the light on a foggy, cloudy day?
We may not see angels, hear voices, but we can press forward with faith receiving nothing but a joy in heart.
We can walk with confidence that God will guide our steps, and will inspire our utterances.
The spirit of revelation is real.
Song: Have I done any good
Thomas S Monson President - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
His ward with 84 widows
The Welfare Program is inspired of All Mighty God,
This is 3 years since he was sustained President of the Church
A joy to dedicate and rededicate the temples
October 1902 President Joseph F Smith wished we would have temples all over the world for the convenience of people all over the world.
1980 - 115 Temples built, 26 Temples under construction or preconstruction stages.
Make it as accessible to members as possible
Story of sacrifice of members to cross the Amazon 2500 miles away a 7 days journey there and then another 7 days back to get to the temple
Story of another family with no money for airfare to travel to the temple. After 4 years they had saved enough money to go to the Temple and were sealed together forever. And then another 2 years of back breaking labour to get a beloved married daughter and grandchild to go to the temple.
Temples are more than stone and mortar, they are built on trials and testimonies.
They are sanctified by sacrifice and service.
They labored 40 years to build the Salt Lake Temple
Why are so many willing to sacrifice so much to get the blessings of the temple.
No struggle is too difficult, never too many obstacles to overcome, too many discomforts to attend. WE SHOULD ALWAYS GO TO THE TEMPLE; IT IS WORTH EVERY SACRIFICE AND EVERY EFFORT.
Your sacrifice is to visit the temple regularly if you live close enough to the temple
SET ASIDE THE TIME AND ATTEND.
If I want to make my ancestors proud then I need to work now to work to the temple and serve others so that I am prepared to serve them when I learn of them and be ready to serve.
Regard your temple recommend as a sacred blessing of which it is.
You have not obtained all the blessings there are to get.
ALWAYS HAVE THE TEMPLE IN YOUR SIGHTS, DO NOTHING THAT WOULD TAKE YOU AWAY FROM IT.
If parents had in every bedroom a picture of the temple
“I love to see the Temple” it is a song
In this sacred sanctuary we will find peace; we will be renewed and fortified.
One temple will rise in a city which came into being over 2500 years ago, The temple in Rome, Italy.
Each temple stands as a beacon to the world.
Each temple is an expression of our testimony
Make whatever sacrifices are necessary to have the spirit of the temple within our homes.
